Growing up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, I spent a good chunk of time in DC; heading there from the Shore was always such an exciting adventure for my family. DC’s metro system has got to be one of the most quintessentially DC things there are, and it’s long been a dream to do a poster incorporating the web of tracks in a way that… works. However, the hangup I kept hitting was trying to figure out how to portray the metro map so that I could also incorporate my more heavily illustrative style. This time, though, I was kinda like, what if I just… simplified my work? Transatlanticism string as the metro routes, the envelope as its own route, make the DC perimeter a heart… done and done. It was a little anxiety-inducing to take such a different approach to a project, but the strings came together and the dots were connected and both bands played incredible sets and I am thinking it’s a sign that the freckles in our eyes are mirror images and when we kiss they’re perfectly aligned.
