Three layers + some split fountain action for Hot Tunz, created for their show last month at the CMA theater. My second project finished at Hatch (and my personal favorite), my goal for this one was to go full psychedelia to the best of my ability; while working around the constraints that come with the nature of letterpress printing. A red and yellow split fountain went down first, followed by a transparent blue, and then topped off with a purple key layer. All of the blocks in this piece were sourced from the Hatch archive, when putting together the blue layer I specifically remember digging through the drawers of dingbats and trying to see just how many different objects I could cram into the one layer of print…. I crammed a lot into that one layer of print.
I would like to personally shake hands with whoever it was that carved the trippy background block many years ago; I want to believe that they saw into the future and knew that one day, somewhere down the line, an intern could really use some trippy lines.
